Secrets of Inspiration in Cooking for February Brunches
I love strolling through the markets, seeing the local products of all kinds that make the stalls shine with color. Diversity, quality, flavors, and desires mix cheerfully to the sound of conversations here and there.
From Wednesday morning to Saturday morning, certain villages around the Villa are lively all year round, and even more so in the summer season. Each market has its charm, and none is better than the other. The choice of place depends on the time available, my desire to search, or to go directly to the basket of the day.
Winter Fruits and Vegetables
Here are the vegetables, over there are the spices and olives, and over here, the fish from our neighboring coast, and further on, the breads and fougasses call me!
Wandering through these markets inspires me, I stroll from stall to stall looking for the flavor that will make up the menu of the month.
Since January, apples, pears, and bananas have been featured on the Brunch menu. Carrots, celery, beetroot, avocado, broccoli, Jerusalem artichokes, and pumpkin will have to coexist to create vegetarian flans or roast in the oven to accompany the meat or fish of the day.
Markets Around the Villa
Thursday Morning
The market in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, at the foot of Fort St André, is typically Provençal, with its little central café and the old medieval village, making me feel like I’m on vacation all year round. It’s nice to get lost on a Thursday morning among the stalls and the narrow streets.
Saturday Morning
The Uzès market is constantly bustling with energy, clothing, food, art, and tasting of local products are all found throughout the city, making it feel like half a day isn’t enough to see everything. Lively terraces, vendors promoting their products, stalls filled with seasonal colors… everything tempts me, the basket isn’t big enough, but since I live here, there’s no rush. I’ll come back next week and will still be excited by this vibrant life in Uzès!
For the Friday market, it’s Remoulins, where fruits and vegetables take center stage in my basket. Here, I’ll select and imagine fruit juices, smoothies, and homemade fruit salads.
February 2025 Brunch
It’s all set, the menu is in my mind and in my basket: creamy broccoli soup with red lentils, beetroot hummus, creamy chocolate chia seed pudding, apple/pear/ginger/turmeric juice, roasted fennel with bulgur, yogurt, pumpkin stuffed with mushroom bourguignon, honey-roasted carrots with pomegranate, seared scallops on a stone, avocado-banana-honey-almond smoothie, and pineapple pan-fried French toast waffles.
And let’s not forget the crêpes for Candlemas, available in both classic and lighter versions with oat flakes…
There are many other markets: Sernhac, Vers Pont du Gard… I prefer them in the spring!
Alix’s Garden and a shop not to be missed, like @lescompagnonsduterroir30, I love going there, and there’s so much more to say, but that will be for a future article! Stay tuned, subscribe to not miss my escapades.
